Jen Goes to Retreat

This October I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a retreat for the first time!  It is sponsored by my local quilt guild and really quite affordable.  The last two years I haven't been able to attend because it actually fell on the weekend we got married and then our one-year anniversary and since I figured my then-fiance/now-husband wouldn't appreciate me missing both of those events to go quilting..... well, you get the idea.  But this year it was the weekend after, and damn it all, I was going!  

I think I brought every WIP I have to retreat to work on and even some soon-to-be-WIPs but did manage to get a lot accomplished.  I started with several mini quilts that I needed to baste/quilt/bind and a block for a sampler raffle quilt for a local charity.

When I was done with the mini's I moved on to binding a large quilt that I'd been putting off for ages.   Jane introduced me to glue basting the binding before I machine quilt it and I am officially now a convert.  I stopped at Keepsake on the way home to get some basting glue for myself.  It made finishing this large quilt off so much easier.  It's a gift that I hope to give at Thanksgiving this year so watch for pictures soon shortly after!

Round #3 Recap {Round Trip Quilts}

Liz was working on Christina's autumn themed quilt and added some requested falling maple leaves to the top.

I had Kim's quilt for round 3 and added some wonky flying geese.

Leanne added some cute applique flowers to Heather's quilt.

Mary was working Liz's quilt this month.  She added some color coordinated bear paw blocks to the top.

Chelsea had my New Hampshire Beauty quilt and added the NH state motto to the quilt top.

Christina was working on Leanne's star quilt top.  She added some of Leanne's favorite friendship stars to the top.

Kim at Ties That Bind Quilting

Kim had Mary's rainbow quilt top for round three.  She gave the quilt some breathing room, adding thin stipes of color in between low volume squares.

Heather was working on Chelsea's quilt top.  She added some meandering flying geese to the top.

I was working on Heather's "Wishes for my Daughter" quilt.  I added some bright and cheery cathedral window blocks with some additional words that Heather sent along.

Round #1 Recap {Round Trip Quilts}

Round one of Round Trip Quilts is officially complete.  I thought it would be fun to do a summary post of all of the additions made this round to show you how things are progressing.

Liz at Green Cheese Quilting

Liz had Heather's "Letter's to my Daughter" quilt first.  She played off of the sail boat adding waves, and added some adorable wonky stars with a touch of fussy cut.  You can read her full post here.

Jennifer at Never Just Jennifer

I had Liz's feathered star center first.  After bouncing through several ideas, I added color coordinated peach HST's to frame and accent her center block.  The full post can be seen here.

Leanne at Devoted Quilter

Leanne started with my New Hampshire themed quilt.  Being the lone Canadian in the group she pieced these maple leaf blocks, even throwing in one red and white block for Canada.  Her post and additional pictures is here.

Mary at See Mary Quilt

Mary worked on Leanne's star-themed quilt first.  She added these little wonky stars with Victoria Findlay Wolfe-esque centers to bring in lots of colors.  How fun!  Her full post can be found here.

Chelsea started with Mary's gradient rainbow star.  She drafted and pieced some color coordinated arrows to add to the block and tied out the cornerstone blocks into her border as well.   Her full post is here.

Christina got Chelsea's solid and low-volume center stars first.  She worked through a few different design options and eventually added some stars and plus blocks.  Her full post is here.

Kim at Ties That Bind Quilting

Kim started with Christina's fall themed block first.  She added these adorable little apple blocks and apple cores to the start that Christina started with.  Her blog post and more pictures can be found here.

Heather at QA Creations

Heather worked Kim's modern bright quilt first and made this fun piece to add to the mix using a pattern from “Fresh Quilting” by Malka Dubrawsky.  You can find her blog post about it here.
