Mosaic Tuesday - Clashy Brights {Quiltspiration 365}

Thanks to some of the lovely ladies over at Late Night Quilters I'm happy to introduce a new series of weekly posts I'm calling Mosaic Tuesdays (for lack of a better name at this point).  It's part of an effort we're calling quiltspiration365‬, intended to fulfill your every need when it comes to quilty inspiration 365 days a year.  You can find more posts about the series on Facebook and instagram using  #quiltspiration365 as well as links to the other posts this week below.  I'll be sharing color mosaics that inspire me, and hopefully you as well.  Feel free to use these to inspire your projects I just ask that you link back to the original color pallet post to give credit.  So without further adu...

I just love clashy brights.  This palette is partially inspired by the warm colors I used for my Windows for Wishes mini quilt and partially by the fact that I happened to see them all together when I picked up my hair ties the other morning.  (Inspiration is in all sorts of odd places).

Tangerine, Magenta, Lilac, Rose, Coral, and Peach come together in this gloriously mismatched color scheme, but somehow, it still works.  What do you think?  Would you make a quilt out of these colors?  The remind me a lot of Kaffe Fasset fabrics.  I think his trademark is the use of over saturated bright colors.

Deep red plays with warm dark brown and is off set by peaches and light natural.  Chartreuse makes it pop.

With fall in full swing, winter is just around the corner and so is Christmas.  This mosaic could go either way, Autumn or Christmas.  Just more proof that Red and Green can be more versatile than traditional holiday colors.

There is this one tree in the middle of the parking lot at work that I love.  I get to walk past it when I have a meeting at the big house as we sometimes say.  It's bright red.  It stands all alone on a little hill and its showy red leaves shine against only the sky.  Today, with the sky caught between grey blue storm clouds and clear blue fall sky it was particularly striking.  Today's palette is inspired by that tree.

I don't generally do primary colors.  I don't know why.  I think I just prefer the subtle variances of all of the secondary and tertiary colors.  But there is something special about red and blue together.  I think the various shades of each color help keep it from feeling too patriotic, though it does still have some of that vibe to it.

Left to Right, Top to Bottom: 1. indigo and linen quilt, 2. Red!, 3. lily quilt wall, 4. marley of the sea {do.good}, 5. red | orange, 6Reserved Custom Order, 7. IQSCM circa 1900, 8. creux quilt, plus quilt, 9. Totem, 10. French Dot Constellation Runner , 11. Red and Blue triangles, 12. amish hourglass, 13. hand quilting geese, 14. Around the Color Wheel Solid Red, 15. Japanese blue and indigo quilt, 16. T-Hello Red!

Inspired by this photograph

Radiant Orchid, this year's Pantone color of the year plays perfectly with Bright Fuschia.  These power house colors are offset by the soft and warm Natural.  Navy grounds the whole thing and keeps it from floating away.

I know brown isn't big in the modern quilting movement but there is just something I really love about a good brown/natural off-setting some good, bright colors.  What are your thoughts on the color brown?

It's autumn here and the trees are in the middle of a wild competition of color.  It is always so short.  so quick.  Soon all that will be left are the evergreens: pine, douglass fir, hemlock, spruce in all their green glory.  They sit patiently and wait for the rest of the mountains to finish showing off and then surprise us with their soft, never ending beauty.  And those trees that were so busy showing off for us in autumn will turn to brown and grey as they drop their leaves and soon that will be all that is left:  evergreens, naked brown trees, and the grey sky of late fall in New England (and not long after it will all be covered in pure, white snow).

Today's palette is inspired by late summer beauty.  Blueberry and dark Teal offset soft, warm beige and tan.  I love how the warm-colored whites play against the cool-colored dark's.  I think this would make an amazing quilt: soft and warm but still strong and commanding!  What do you think?

Today's palette is inspired by the colors of delphinium.  I picked up a bouquet of delphinium at the grocery store late last week and have been captivated by the rich depth of colors of this simple flower.  Everything from deep indigo and violet up to the palest, lightest lavender and blue you could imagine.  And it's all accented by the various shades of green at the center of each flower.  Truly lovely!  I believe I have a new found appreciation for these deep colors.

Today's palette is inspired by the colors of early autumn.  The leaves are just starting to change here and for the most part everything is still green.  It even felt like summer again this weekend.  But the trees know that it's time for the bright mosaic of fall foliage.  The various shades of yellow, red, orange are starting to show.  Even some of the rich purple are just peaking out!  The trees are all bi-colored; starting to display their beautiful colors while still holding on the the lush greenness of summer.  I hope this mosaic inspires you to look around and appreciate the fleeting beauty of this season!

Today's palette is inspired by these cool, but somewhat creepy fabric moths by Yumi Okita.  There is another interesting blog post about them here.

This palette is made up of bold and dark aqua and teal offset by sharp yellows and various shades of pink.  Black and lots of white help to ground these otherwise flighty colors.  I think this could be fun as a grown-up version of a primary colored quilt (red, yellow, blue).  It would also be perfect for any nursery in my opinion.

Today's mosaic is bright and cheery.  It has actually felt like summer around here the last few days so I wanted to create a palette that reflected that.  Rich emerald green and bright canary yellow are balanced by warm cream and sprinkled with hints of red to give it some spice.

As the trees are beginning to turn here in New England, I find myself clinging to the soft colors of summer.  This mosaic is inspired by a day at the beach.

Overcast skies lend themselves to soft muted colors of summer:  The light blues of the sky and water and the quieted colors of the green beach glass both stand out against the soft and warm colored tans and whites of the sand and sky.

Today's mosaic is inspired by the colors of the sunset on the water in summer.  Golden rays of sunshine illuminate the water while shades of Peach begin to emerge as the sky turns orange.  There's nothing I love more than sunset on the water.

Something a little softer this week.  The warm colors of fiery Coral and delicate Blush combine with the cool colors of wispy Lavender brighter Grape.  I love this color palette personally.  These are an analogous color scheme, meaning that they are all next to each other on the color wheel.  This makes the combination both soft and vibrant.  I don't generally work with a lot of purple but I may need to change that soon and make something in these colors!

Today's mosaic is inspired by the colors of a red/purple maple against the bright green summer grass an clear blue sky.  I saw one of these colorful trees while on a run the other day and was immediately smitten.  Isn't it amazing the bright color combination we can find in nature?

Today's mosaic palette is mood and sweet at the same time.  Dark Navy is balanced by Rich Papaya.  Bright Buttery Yellow give is a pop, and hints of Soft Green take it beyond the basic red, yellow, and blue color palette.

The best part about today is that I'm giving away a Fat Quarter bundle from my own stash in this color palette.  What do you think?  Do you like this palette in fabric as much as in a mosaic?  I do for sure.  Use the Rafflecopter widget at the end of the post to enter the giveaway.  Drawing ends on Friday, August 1st and I'll draw and announce a winner on Saturday.

You can find more posts about the series on Facebook and instagram using the hashtag #quiltspiration365 as well as links to the other posts this week below.  I'll be sharing color mosaics that inspire me, and hopefully you as well.  This will be an interactive series so I'll encourage you to post links to the color palettes that have been inspiring you lately!  Feel free to use these to inspire your projects I just ask that you link back to the original color pallet post to give credit.  So without further adu...

Today's mosaic is inspired by rich ripe raspberries still on the vine set against the bright blue sky of summer.  It's dominated by sharp Chartreuse, Aqua, rich Leafy Green, bright Pink, and deep Plums.
